These are a few of my favorite shots from Jack & my wanderings around Dallas this past Saturday.
While attempting to squeeze pleasant shots from the nearby farmers market, I came to a creative wall of feeling uninspired. Having bought eggs in an attempt to ease the uncomfortable feelings I was experiencing (what an American act, right?), I told Jack that I’d like to move on and try shooting elsewhere.
And of course, as always, the unknown, unintentional “elsewhere” was the place that excited me most. This place practically embodied change; unlike the more-or-less unchanging structure of the farmers market beside it, this former florist was undergoing a total metamorphosis into a structure unknown.
If this gutted, colorful structure is in the middle of a metamorphosis, then Carlos (pictured first with his son, Eduardo) is the maker of its chrysalis. They were a delight to meet and converse with, and I’d have to say that I’ve encountered few kids as smiley as Eduardo.
As I write this, I’m realizing that this building is more of a personal symbol for change than I thought while shooting. Before entering it, I was lethargic, unenthused, and frankly, ready to take a fat nap. But when I left, I was completely energized, inspired, and ready to seek out every beautiful thing I could see.
Isn’t unexpected beauty the best?
I’ll probably post more shots from this day in another post.
Until next time,
